State of New York Fallen Firefighters Monument
|
|
On October 5, 1998, Governor George Pataki dedicated the New York State Fallen Firefighters' Memorial at the Empire State Plaza, in Albany, New York. Perhaps the finest memorial to both career and volunteer firefighters in America, this striking bronze monument is dedicated to the more than 2000 firefighters who have lost their lives in the line of duty in New York State. The ten feet tall bronze sculpture by noted artist Robert J. Eccleston of Schuyler Falls, New York, depicts an injured firefighter being assisted by two of his brothers. They lead him, symbolical, away from the wall of fallen heroes. The names of New York's fallen heroes who have died since 1806 are engraved in the 54 feet long marble and granite wall that stands behind the sculpture. |
